Departments & Committees

The purpose of the General Federation of Women's Clubs was "to unite the women's clubs and like organizations throughout the world for the purpose of mutual benefit, and for the promotion of common interests in education, philanthropy, public welfare, moral values, civics and fine arts."  Thus, the start of our six Departments.  All projects and programs of volunteer service fall under one of the following six departments

1. ARTS – Encompasses areas pertaining to the creative arts including dance, theater, music, crafts and artwork of any type.  Affords club members the opportunity to develop their own   creativity, as well as promote culture and art within the community.  This department often         provides scholarships to students in one of the art fields.
Example: Decorations for Casino Night, Trim-A-Tree for Charity, Literature & Drama Christmas Play/Pageant, Group trips to plays and musicals,         
Music Dance "Twelve Months of Juniors."

2.  CONSERVATION – Involves energy awareness with education and energy conservation.  Encourages preservation of wildlife and beautification using plants and trees.  Encourages environmental action such as recycling to preserve our resources.  Wildlife and nature education and protection are stressed.
Example:  Recycling awareness, Adopt-A-Manatee, Lakewatch Program, Energy                                                Management program and Planting trees.

3.  EDUCATION – The object of this department is to insure the best possible educational                program for all people and to acknowledge the right of each individual to attain, retain and apply          knowledge.  Encourages participation in school-sponsored programs.  This department often     provides scholarships to deserving students in the community.  May cover education of the public                 in any area or field where a need exists.  Often works with the public library systems.
Example:  School Issues: such as PTA participation and school volunteers.  Continuing                                   Education such as Scholarship Fund, "Reach" reading program,
Books for Babies "SOAR" and tutoring.

 4.  HOME LIFE – Projects within this department involve health, consumerism and family   living.  This department encourages family improvement and participation in ones faith.      Consumer concerns and financial education are stressed.  Works closely with local health     education and service agencies.
Example:  Health: such as an organ donor program or CPR certification.  Today's                                                Living: such as Agape, Christmas dinner program, ARC and Hacienda Girls Ranch.

5.  INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS – This department is involved with international aid,              International hospitality and international policies.  Supports the Special Olympics,                                                 CARE,    UNICEF and others.  Educates and encourages understanding of other nations.
Example:  Cultural: such as Exchange student (host). Trade Aid such as donation to                                          CARE and calendar project (saving old calendars for teaching
Underprivileged  immigrants).

6.  PUBLIC AFFAIRS – Promotes citizenship and encourages voter participation.  Supports       legislation concerning women.  Works in areas of crime prevention and safety education.
Example:  Citizenship: such as Pledge of Allegiance, Chamber membership, Christmas                                        Parade and Valentine's for Veterans.  Crime Prevention: such as Rape Crisis Center. 
Safety: such as Boaters 6-pack and Personal Attack Alarms.

   COMMITTEES

The committees are the internal workings of our club, which help us to organize and raise money to support the work of the Departments.

1.  MEMBERSHIP – This committee is responsible for recruiting and orienting new            members and for making sure the club is meeting the needs of all members, new and alumni.  They plan the Membership Drive Social, orientation and initiation of new                                       members and assist with the Installation Banquet.

2. FUNDRAISING WAYS & MEANS – This committee is responsible for keeping our       club going financially.  They plan and organize all projects to raise money so our club's       projects and programs can be carried out.  Each member should strive to work at least       
five hours per year on  fundraising projects.

3. PUBLIC RELATIONS/COMMUNICATIONS – Responsible for publicity of club's        projects, programs and fund-raisers.

4. TELEPHONE – Responsible for making calls to members concerning club business.

5. SUNSHINE – Remembers club members with cards for appropriate occasions.

 6.REFRESHMENT – Responsible for planning refreshments for the General Meetings                                            and whatever else they may desire.

7.SCRAPBOOK – Responsible for keeping scrapbook of mementos of the club's events                                       and publicity for the year.
